Knut Asdam was born in 1968 in Trondheim, Norway. Asdam is a filmmaker, installation artist, sculptor and photographer who lives and works in Oslo, Norway. He attended the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program in New York (1994-95), Jan van Eyck Akademie in Maatstricht (1992-94), Goldsmiths College, University of London (1989-92), Wimbledon School of Art in London (1988-89), and the University of Oslo and Maui Community College in Hawaii. Expressed in diverse forms, Knut Asdam’s work investigates the psychological and material effects of contemporary society, exploring themes related to four essential categories: ‘Speech,’ ‘Living,’ ‘Sexualities,’ and ‘Struggle.’ Knut Asdam’s work has been exhibited at Tate Modern in London, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Sweden, the Istanbul Biennial and the Venice Biennale.
